An eyewitness has given a first-hand account of yesterday’s near tragedy involving Augusta AW139 helicopter conveying Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, and ten others in Kabba area of Kogi State.
Mr. Dare Olayemi, an aide to All Progressive Congress Kogi West senatorial candidate, Senator Smart Adeyemi, was at the scene with his principal. They were both at the field where the helicopter crash landed to receive Osinbajo, who was in the state for the Tradermoni scheme.
Olayemi told The Nation that first to arrive, was a helicopter occupied by the Vice President’s advanced party. However, about 30 minutes later that of Osinbajo was sighted in the air and about the time it was landing trouble erupted.
“My leader, Senator Adeyemi, and several others were in a Coaster bus when we suddenly realised that the pilot had lost control.
“Were it not for God’s timely intervention and the pilot’s reaction, our bus would have become a trap in a stadium built by Senator Adeyemi for his people a few years ago.
“The surging crowd made it difficult for the bus to move and when the helicopter crash landed, losing one side, some of us rushed to help but other than the VP, I can’t recognise faces of the others in the helicopter,” he told the paper.
