Chief Whip of the Senate, Dr Orji Kalu, who was scheduled to jet out of the country to Spain, has put on hold the trip triggering speculation that the former Abia governor’s decision was borne out of fear of being given Sen. Ike Ekweremadu’s treatment by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) abroad.

Recall that Ekweremadu was subject of vitriol and physical attack perpetrated by irate IPOB members in Germany at the 2nd Annual Igbo Cultural Festival in Nuremberg where he was invited as guest speaker/special guest of honour.
Report has emerged that Kalu was supposed to travel to Germany for medical check-up but the Senate Chief Whip jettisoned the plan on the ground that he feared he could be attacked by IPOB members in diaspora who have been threatening to deal ruthlessly with leaders of Igbo extraction.
The insinuation has drawn the reaction of the ex-governor, who denied the claim in an interview he granted NAN.
He said, “I have been in my country home interacting with the people and settling disputes. The news that I suspended by planned medical check-up in Germany was not true.
“I was invited by Igbo group in Spain to attend their function, I could not go because of the interaction with my constituents.’’
