Edo Speaker ‘pushing himself to suicide’ over health problem

Indication has emerged that the new Speaker Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Justin Okonobo is engaging in harmful behaviour that may jeopardise his health further, OrijoReporter exclusively gathered.

Hon. Okonobo used to be the Deputy Speaker until early in the week when he and his predecessor, Honourable (Mrs.) Elizabeth Ativie swapped offices in a political arrangement by the All Progressive Congress to redistribute the sharing of political offices among the three senatorial zones in Edo State ahead of the September 10 governorship election in the state.

Things may be looking up for Hon. Okonobo in his political career but same cannot be said of his health condition. Last year, he underwent kidney surgery in an Indian hospital after one of his kidneys was damaged, and removed.

Now left with a kidney, findings revealed that a person may be born with only one kidney, a condition that is called renal agenesis. Another condition, which is called kidney dysplasia, causes a person to be born with two kidneys, but only one of them works. Most people who are born without a kidney (or with only one working kidney) lead normal, healthy lives.

However, the new Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly is overworking his only kidney, regularly drinking high volume of energy drinks.

“On the average, Hon. Okonobo drinks about seven Power Horse every day,” sources close to the Speaker told OrijoReporter.

“Most 8-ounce cans of energy drink will contain roughly 70 to 80 milligrams of caffeine. The Food and Drug Administration has determined that moderate caffeine intake — around 200 milligrams per day — is unlikely to have any negative health effects, but a high intake of 600 milligrams or more per day could increase your risk of kidney damage. Ongoing overconsumption of caffeine has been associated with chronic kidney disease, according to research published in the “Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology” in June 2009. Drinking one or two cans per day is unlikely to have an impact on your kidneys, but greatly exceeding this amount may increase your risk of kidney damage.” said health website, livestrong.com

Though opinions are divided on the side effects of too much sex, it was alleged that Hon. Okonobo indulges in excessive intercourse at the Legislative Quarters in Ihiama, GRA, Benin where he lives alone, and sometimes uses The Lodge Hotel at Commercial Avenue in the same GRA.

It was said that the new Edo Speaker has it every day, and at times, mornings, afternoons and nights. With who? His wife, Mrs. Okonobo lives in his house at Agbalajobi Estate in Ogba area of Lagos State where she works with Maggi Kitchen. Their three children, two boys and a girl also live in Lagos with her.
