‘Why i dumped my newborn baby in pit toilet’

A woman has been arrested in Guru Village in Bauchi State for dumping her one-day old baby she delivered at home in pit toilet and leaving the newborn to die.

But the baby was immediately rescued as the mother could not bear it cry from the pit toilet and drew the attention of her neighbours to the incident.


The suspect, Juliana James, a mother-of-six, is an indigene of Shendan Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Mrs. James, who is in the custody of the police at the Bauchi State Police Command while talking to newsmen blamed her vile act on extreme poverty.

She said her family’s living condition grew worse about three months ago when her husband had an accident.

Her word, “My husband has no job, and had an accident three months ago. Presently, he is in the hospital and the situation became worse for us. We hardly eat. We were dying of starvation. I delivered at home and threw the baby into the toilet because I didn’t know how we are going to take care of it. I didn’t tell my husband.”

Report said the rescued baby, a baby girl has been handed over to social welfare officials.
