Driver docked for stealing his boss’ $1,400

A driver Olufojude Abiodun 30, with Iroko Capital, a financial advisory company, who allegedly stole the sum of $1,400 US dollars from his boss, yesterday appeared before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting at Igbosere.

The defendant who had no fixed residential address was docked on a count charge of stealing slammed against him by the police.

The prosecutor Inspector Abass Abayomi, told the court that the defendant committed that alleged offence on March 15, 2017.

He said that the incident occurred at ‎about 9am, at 4b, Omololu Street, off Sinari Daranijo street in Victoria Island Lagos.

Abayomi said that on the day of the incident the complainant Efulue Kenneth, and the driver had gone to his farm at Ogun state where the driver abandoned him and later sent him a text message that he has resigned.

He said that the complainant who couldn’t drive himself back to Lagos due to his bad sight had to look for somebody to drive him back to Lagos.

Adding that it was when he got to Lagos ‎that he discovered that Abiodun had stolen his money, from the bag where he kept it because he is the only one that knows about the money which made him to run away.

The prosecutor said “The complainant, said he was trying to buy more Dollars to enable him travel outside the country for the treatment of his sight.

He said that the offence committed is punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos state 2015.

However the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate Mr. B. O Sonuga granted him bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.

He said that ‎the sureties must be gainfully employed, show evidence of tax payment and have their addresses verified.

Sonuga adjourned the case till May 9, for mention.
