The female doctor who is the first Nigerian to test positive to Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) has fully recovered from the virus while four others also kept in quarantine are nearing recovery.
The cheering news was broken by the Minister of Health, Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu to newsmen yesterday in Lagos.
The doctor (name with held) was one of the health workers in First Consultant Hospital, Obalende who had primary contact with the late Liberian Patrick Sawyer. She and several other workers in the hospital were quarantined and was the first person to test positive to the virus.
Having certified free of the disease, she was yesterday discharged.
According to the minister: “The doctor is safe and free with no risk of infecting others and had been discharged to go back to her family. In fact, She is even safer than most people on the street who may not know that they have one symptom or the other.
“Her immunity is boosted and she was closely monitored before being discharged. The experts would have dis¬charged her all this while but had to observe her very well because of the nature of the disease.”
He also added that four others kept in quarantine are nearing recovery.
