The twice world most expensive player and his girlfriend, Rocio Oliva, were due to fly from Buenos Aires to Dubai and had arrived at Ezeiza airport in the Argentinian capital city at 9:15pm, and attempting to check in, but Maradona was not allowed to board the flight.

Reports say he was met with the message, “Sir, your passport has been reported stolen. You cannot travel.”

The football legend described the incident as politically motivated.

He said, “I won’t let anyone control my life.

“For 15 years, I’ve done what I want and no-one can tell me what to do. This complaint for theft is nonsense. My lawyer will be responsible for investigating this lie, which has been orchestrated by some politician.”
