Dapchi schoolgirls to be released in 2 weeks’ time – Defence Minister

Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, has hinted that efforts are being made to secure the release of 110 abducted students of Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, before the end of March.

Ali dropped this hint at the weekend on a live Channels TV programme, Sunrise, monitored by our correspondent.

The minister revealed the imminent release of the abductees saying intelligence report available to him indicated that the abducted girls would soon breath the air of freedom and reunite with their distraught families.

And when asked to give a specific date for the girls’ release, he said, “It can be earlier; maybe a week, it can be two weeks, but we are on it, and I’m telling you with all sense of sincerity that we are closing in on them.”

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari at a meeting with former United States of America Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, last week, in Abuja, spoke of his preference for negotiating the girls’ release as against military option.
