Coronavirus: Tinubu tells FG to print more naira notes

All Progressives Congress Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has advised the Federal Government to print more naira notes so as to save the economy, which is mired in trouble following the coronavirus pandemic.

Tinubu gave this advice in a statement he released ahead of his 68th birthday coming up tomorrow.

The ex-governor cited the case of the United States which printed more dollars in order to boost her economy amid the ravaging disease quoted Tinubu as saying in the statement: “Already, the price of oil has fallen to less than 30 dollars a barrel. This will bring a dollar shortfall. This does not, however, necessitate a corresponding shortfall in public sector naira expenditures.

“The US controls dollar issuance. We control naira issuance as is our sovereign right. Just as America has used its sovereign right to issue its currency to stave economic disaster, so too may Nigeria issue naira for the same purpose.”
