CBN Gov. told me there was no money in treasury – Buhari


President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken of hitherto unknown incident that transpired between him and the incumbent governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele.

Buhari spoke of the incident which he said happened on his assumption of office, on Friday while hitting out at Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, when he received in audience leaders of 1,000 support groups canvassing for his re-election led by Dr. Mahmud Mohammed.

Buhari recounted that when he became president he asked Emefiele for money but the CBN governor decline citing looting.

His word: “I have said this for the umpteenth time and I have challenged them to prove me wrong, but in the  16 years the  PDP ruled, Nigeria was getting 2.1 million times 100 (2.1 million barrels by $100 per barrel) every day, every week, but when we came on board, the price fell to between $37-$38 and hung around $40-$50.

“I went to the CBN Governor and asked him for money, and he said there was no money.”
