A casual worker has been sentenced to six days of community service for stealing a pot of soup worth N8,000.

Abiodun Ojedokun was arraigned on a three-count of conspiracy, burglary and stealing after he broke into a canteen at Onipanu Model Market in Shomolu on Sept. 20 at 2:00 a.m. and stole a pot of soup.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinlabi Adegoke, told the court that the convict, a casual worker, committed the offences with the connivance of his friends, to break into one Mrs. Gbadamosi Sanni’s shop at 2:00 a.m.

“They broke the locks and stole her large pot of soup, valued at N8,000,” Adegoke said.
The prosecutor told the court that the offences contravened Sections 285, 308 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to all the charges preferred against him but cited starvation as the reason for his action.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi, however, sentenced him to 48 hours of community service for each of the three charges.

“Based on the facts of this case before this court, the confirmed report and your plea of leniency, I hereby sentence you to 48 hours community service on each of the counts,” Osunsanmi said.
