31-year old Chinegwu, a musician, was trapped inside The Gym in Colchester, Essex, with a cleaner, Tina, after the lift shuddered to a halt shortly before 10pm, Daily Mail reported.

The pair phoned the emergency number written inside the lift carriage but were unsure how long help would take.

An alumnus of Nnamdi Azikwe University, Akwa, and Kings College, Lagos, Chinegwu’s quick thinking ensured help came in good time. He posted the awkward situation clip on his Facebook page.

Within 20-minute of the post, Chinegwu and the cleaner were rescued. A friend of his saw the post and raised alarm that got the attention of emergency lift operators, the gym manager and a fire crew.

‘The lift took off for about ten seconds and there was a big shake. I didn’t know what was happening.

‘I was panicking and wondering how long we were going to be there. I started filming videos to tell people what was happening in case they were passing by.’ Mr. Chinegwu recounted the incident on his Facebook page.
