Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki has claimed to enjoy the support of President Muhammadu Buhari on his re-election bid.
Obaseki is locked in an acrimonious and protracted battle with his predecessor, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole over the control of the party in Edo state.
Oshimhole is at the vanguard of the opposition to Obaseki’s return and is giving tacit support to the governor’s arch rival, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, to clinch the party’s ticket.
Obaseki in an interview with State House Correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Villa during which he presented his nomination form said the president promised him of his support.
According to the governor: “I came to see Mr President to formally inform him of my desire and intention to seek re-election as governor of Edo State on the platform of the APC in the forthcoming governorship elections. The President was quite warm and welcoming.
“When I showed him my Expression of Interest form, he looked through it, wished me good luck and assured me of his support.”
