President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday met behind closed doors with Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Amosun, was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC for who Senate seat during the February 23 National Assembly elections in Ogun State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC .
He was suspended on Friday by the Adams Oshiomhole-led APC National Working Committee, NWC, for alleged anti-party activities. Discussion at the closed door meeting was not made public, but it may not be unconnected with his suspension and his support for a governorship candidate outside the APC.
Though he campaigned for the re-election of President Buhari, Amosun has been backing the Ogun State governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Adekunle Akinlade, for the 9th March governorship election in the state. Akinlade, before moving to APM, was one of the APC governorship aspirants but he lost to Dapo Abiodun, who was said to have the backing of the national leader of the party and the NWC. But National Headquarters of the APC is solidly behind Abiodun.
