The traditional ruler of Umueri in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Ben Ameke, has been suspended by his colleagues in the area at the weekend.
Igwe Ameke’s sin is alleged insubordination.
According to Vanguard, the traditional council handed down the judgement to the monarch for breaking the kolanut, an alleged infraction of customs and tradition during a reception for Governor Willie Obiano’s in the area.
It said Ameke’s act sparked fracas as the gathering dissolved into conflict in the presence of Gov. Obiano.
The paper wrote that the erred monarch’s suspension was contained in a letter signed by the Chairman of Anambra East Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Alex Edozieuno where it was said that “an observer from Umueri should be nominated to be attending a meeting of royal fathers in the area while the suspension lasts.”
