Outgoing Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has been dragged to court for allegedly causing a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in charge of Election Operations and Logistics, Mrs. Aminat Zakari, health and family problems.
Fayose had on July 2, ahead of Saturday’s governorship in Ekiti, disparaged Mrs. Zakari, three other staff of the electoral body, the police and the Department of State Service, DSS, accusing them of partisanship and manipulation of the election process in favour of All Progressive Congress candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who emerged the winner on Saturday.
The governor’s outburst has drawn Zakari’s response with the latter claiming it has negative impact on her health and family in a suit filed by her lawyers, Ubong Akpan Chambers.
In the suit, which read in part, Zakari’s lawyer wrote: “The governor’s scurrilous falsehood had negatively impacted on our client’s health, career and family life.
“You cannot possibly think it excusable on any grounds, other than deliberate viciousness, that a governor of a state can legitimately descend to labelling a mother, wife and sister of his fellow beings, a criminal of such astounding magnitude.
“What makes it worse than defamation is the incredible injurious falsehood you inflicted on our client, in her work and public service.”
