Lagos pilgrim dies while going to stone ‘devil’

A female pilgrim from Lagos state, Alhaja Folashade Lawal, has died from suspected heart attack in Muslims holy land where she was performing hajj.

Alhaja Lawal, who hailed from Oshodi local government area of Lagos slumped and died at around 3.00am on her way to Jamrat to stone the devil, according to the Amir Hajj of Lagos, Alhaji AbdulLateef Abdulkarim.

Throwing stones at a symbolic representation of the devil is the final hajj ritual in which pilgrims throw seven stones at a wall representing Satan.

It is intended to remind Muslims of the devil’s persistent efforts to lead the faithful astray.

According to the Muslim tradition, the Prophet Ibrahim was the first to perform the ritual after the devil tried to incite him to disobey Allah.
