With the battle for the leadership of the 9th National Assembly hotting up, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said All Progressive Congress, APC, despite the ruling party’s numerical advantage in both red and green chambers are in for shock.
APC has been rocked by crisis following the party’s choices of national assembly’s principal officers and zoning arrangement. For instance, the party leadership had settled for Senator Ahmad Lawan as its candidate for the senate president but Senators Danjuma Goje and Ali Ndume, have refused to drop their ambition to occupy the coveted seat in the 9th assembly.
The party faced similar crisis in the run up to election of principal officers of the national assembly in 2015 culminating in the emergence of Senators Bukola Saraki who was not the party’s candidate (an APC member then) and Ike Ekweremadu of the People’s Democratic Party as Senate president and Deputy Senate President respectively.
The PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, foretold a re-occurrence of the 2015 outcome in an interview with Punchng.com.
“Just as Senator Dino Melaye said, INEC will not be involved in the election to select the leaders of the chambers. This is an election that cannot be declared inconclusive neither can it be manipulated.
“As a political party, we obviously have our joker and plans and will display it at the appropriate time. Nigerians should wait for our last-minute card,” he told the paper.
