Three council chairmen in Zamfara state: Jafaru Gidan Sambo of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Mudi Mallamawa of Shinkafi LGA and Abdullahi Shugaba Ruwan Dorowa of Maru LGA, on pilgrimage to mecca have died in the Muslim holy land.
The deaths of the trio, who were elected as councils’ chairmen on the platform of the All Progressive Congress, APC, occurred when the bus they were travelling in with some other pilgrims from Medina to Mecca, a 120 kilometres journey, crashed.
Reports say some of the occupants of the ill-fated bus survived including Chairmen of Anka, Bukkuyum and Gummi Local Government Areas: Nasiru Anka, Tafa Nasarawa and Garba Ziti respectively.
Commissioner in Charge of Health Matters, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Dr. Ibrahim Kana, who confirmed the untoward incident, said Nigerian medical team had been dispatched to Madina, on the orders of NAHCON chairman, Abdullah Mukhtar Muhammad, to liaise with the Saudi authorities for necessary documentation and burial arrangements.
The recent incident brings the number of pilgrim deaths in the holy land to 10 this year.
