1st anniversary programme for late Oba Sijuwade unveiled

The Planning Committee set up by the family of late Oba Okunade Sijuwade to commemorate the one year anniversary of the passing on of the 50th Ooni of Ife has announced activities to mark the 1st Anniversary.


Late Oba Sijuwade died at the age of 85 last year on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, in a London hospital.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the committee stated that the anniversary is scheduled for next week.

The statement reads in part, “The two-day event will kick off on Thursday, 28 July, 2016, with a Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Ayegbaju, Ife. This will then be followed by a grand reception at the Castle of Mercy, Ede Road, Ile-Ife.

“The following day, Friday. 29 July, a Colloquium, titled, “The Life and Times of Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II, The 50th Ooni of Ife, will be hosted by The Institute of Cultural Studies, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, at Oduduwa Hall, OAU. Another reception will follow at Motel Royal, KM 4, Ede Road, Ile-Ife.”
