Obasanjo reveals that Jonathan approved toothpick importation without knowing

In veiled reference to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has said that the immediate past president unbanned the importation of toothpick without knowing.

Obasanjo revealed this on Monday at the 38th Kaduna International Trade Fair Seminar themed “Promoting Public Private Partnership as Panacea for Accelerated Growth and Development”, which he chaired.

The former President, who attributed the economic crisis in Nigeria to policies somersault, said it came to him as a surprise that 40 years after he banned the importation of toothpick into the country one of his successors(Jonathan) unbanned it.

He said, “I banned importation of toothpick in 1977, because it was the most stupid thing to import when we can produce it here. But, about 40 years after, one of the Presidents that came after me, I won’t mention his name, unbanned toothpick. Then, I put on my Babanriga and went to Abuja to express my shock about the policy, but to my greatest surprise, the President told me, he signed the document unbanning toothpick without reading it.”
