134 CORPS KILLED BY HIT-AND-RUN DRIVERS IN 2 YEARS
The corps marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Boboye Oyeyemi, on Wednesday in Abuja, said the corps lost about 134 of its personnel on active service between 2014 and 2015.
Oyeyemi disclosed this while addressing newsmen on activities lined up for 2015 Yuletide special patrol tagged ‘Operation Drive Safely.’ He said about 116 of FRSC personnel were killed in 2014 while 18 lost their lives in 2015, with some of the officers killed by hit-and-run drivers.
Explaining the corps’ programmes for this year’s yuletide, Oyeyemi said the corps would deploy aerial surveillance to start on Thursday at the domestic wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, adding that the total manpower of 36,000 would also be deployed across the country to ensure motorists conform with traffic laws.
He said Deputy Corps Marshals and Assistant Corps Marshals have been relocated to marshal operations along the nation’s road corridors, with a Situation Office to operate 24 hours alongside the call centre.
